Author: Alan Gratz
RU Level: Secondary
Refugee tells the story of three different young people fleeing their country with their families: one in 1938 from Nazi Germany, one in 1995 from Castro's Cuba and another in 2015 from war-torn Syria. Although the book is fiction, it is based on historical accounts and real people. This is a stunning portrayal of the plight of refugees and leaves one thinking, grateful and better informed. It is interesting to see how the three lives intertwine over time and people's reaction to the refugees. The Author's Notes at the end describes the relativity to our time and world.
A must read.
